1 in 110 DO COUNT!

I recently receive my April issue of Parents Magazine.  As I flipped through the magazine, I noticed that despite April being Autism Awareness Month there was not one article on Autism. I was shocked and dismayed. Not even on article on the early warning signs of Autism? Are these people for real?

I wrote about it on Facebook. I liked Parents Magazines fan page and called them out on it.  I received a condescending reply.  I got the other Autism Mamas on board.  We've received no real response.

We will be canceling our subscription.

Parents Magazine just so you know our children with Autism in all of it various forms are deserving of so much more then your dismissive attitude.  Maybe next year you'll do a better job. Hope springs eternal.

  1. Completely and totally agree!
And their most recent response about 'blog entries' is as b.s. filled as the other one.

  2. I don't get the magazine, but it doesn't surprise me. It seems like every article in there is more or less an advertisement for some product to buy. I guess it's hard to make money off of autism.

Good for you for doing something about it!

  7. Hi J,
I keep seeing your name on facebook with all our blogger friends but never knew what your blog is - so I'm finding you backwards! :) I started hating Parents Mag a couple years ago when they had something there that I totally didn't agree with about autism, and I wrote and said "cancel my subscription and this is why" and I never got dignified with a response. GOOD FOR YOU for writing it! AWESOME!
find me if you like at www.redheadmomma.blogspot.com - looks like we have many of the same friends, so it's good to meet you :)

  8. Hi,

I don’t have your contact info. That’s the only reason I am using comment section. I am also a parent and really admiring you the way you are handling and taking care of your kid.

I have just started a ChildrenHaveTalent blog especially for children who are living with disability and/or health conditions. Here parents will be able to add their child’s talent in various categories like singing, painting, drawing and so on.
Please try to use this blog.
My main goal is to reach out all the parents so that they can start using this blog to give their kid a new horizon.
If possible please give me some feedback as a parent did you like this idea?

    Blog Name: Children Have Talent
    Blog URL: http://childrenhavetalent.blogspot.com/

    Thanks,

    Nupur
